ABOUT JODIE BENVENISTE

Jodie Benveniste is an Australian Author-Psychologist and the creator of Mindful Romance - a new category of fiction that bridges the story world and the reader's own inner world.

A registered psychologist (AHPRA) with 20+ years of experience, Jodie is trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy - one of the fastest-growing modalities in contemporary psychology. She is a TEDx speaker and former Chair of an Independent School Board, and has spent her career supporting families, educators, and communities across Australia.

Her debut Mindful Romance series - Never, Not Ever and Everything's Absolutely Fine - are IFS-informed YA contemporary romances for teen and adult readers. Jodie lives in Adelaide, South Australia, on Kaurna land.

Two books by Jodie Benveniste with colorful grid covers featuring illustrations of women, a cat, a house, an award ribbon, and other icons, with titles "Never, Not Ever" and "Everything's Absolutely Fine".

STORY ANGLES

The Fiction Hangover Most readers use fiction to escape but when the story ends, real life rushes back in and the relief evaporates. As a psychologist, Jodie calls this the Fiction Hangover. Her work offers a practical antidote: the Inner-Read Ritual, a 4-step reflective practice that bridges the gap between the story on the page and the reader's own life. Angle for: lifestyle, wellness, culture, parenting media.

Fiction as an underused tool for genuine healing IFS has had a massive cultural moment - millions of social media posts about ‘parts of myself,’ ‘inner child,’ and ‘your protectors.’ But most people are encountering it in fragments. Jodie argues that story is the most accessible and emotionally effective entry point - and that the books people are already reading can do more for their mental health than they realise. Angle for: psychology, mental health, wellbeing media.

Romance readers aren't a guilty pleasure Romance is the world's most-read and least-respected genre. As a registered psychologist, Jodie makes the case that readers who annotate, reread, and say ‘this book understood me’ are engaged in serious emotional self-inquiry - and deserve to be taken seriously. Angle for: book culture, women's lifestyle, education media.
